LOCAL COMMUNITY : LADY MOUSTACHE

Icy yet sunny mornings, crunchy golden amber leaves lining the streets – what better way to relax and unwind on a lazy winter weekend than sinking into a cosy, velvety couch over excellent South American comfort food and even better company?

Throw in the gentle warmth radiating from the fireplace and inner west locals can call themselves lucky that Lady Moustache café is literally a stone’s throw away on Gamon St.

The lovely owners, Paddy and his partner/chef Samantha both share a love of food and community which is reflected in the eclectic café’s generous menu.

When asked about the story behind Lady Mo’s, Paddy says “The concept of Lady Moustache was really just to provide a friendly non-pretentious space where people can share time over a coffee, beer, lunch, breakfast, dinner and wine, or hold a private soirée in a relaxed environment. We have wonderful communities around us in Seddon, Yarraville and the entirety of the inner west, so creating an environment that nurtures these communities was the ethos of generating our business.”

Breakfast favourites include the Columbian ‘Desgranado’ (spiced potato, bacon and chorizo in a rich cheese sauce with corn, coriander and fried eggs), the Chilean ‘Sopapilla’ (fluffy pumpkin fritters served with poached eggs, guacamole, breakfast salsa and pebre), or their weekly special ‘Buñuelos de Desayuno’ (breakfast fritters).

For those who prefer a bit more of a sleep in on their weekends, lunch is just as mouth-watering, with the Chilean ‘Churrasco’ (open steak sanga) and Chimmichanga (fried tortilla, house made sauces and salsa, filled with your protein of choice) among those on offer.

The cherry on top however, happens after dark – with the bar in full swing and patrons hanging out on the balcony upstairs or toasting their hands over the fireplace in the lounge room. Dinner time is all about sharing, with an extensive tapas menu and their popular sharing platters. For the less decisive such as myself, why not just leave it up to the chef’s choice?

Lady Mo’s is located directly across from the Seddon Uniting Church, home to our beloved Maribyrnong Makers Market and have been supplying much needed refreshments to market goers and stallholders during market days.

Paddy adds, “Having lived in the area for over twenty years, I can honestly say how grateful we are to be able to do something we love in the community that we cherish. Being invited to partner with the MMM is a great and natural extension of our gratitude. The MMM is a wonderful expression of Seddon, as it showcases the talent and passion of the makers, and allows the market goers an opportunity to take home individual hand crafted treasures. The committee and stall holders all work tirelessly to ensure that this jewel shines brightly for all to enjoy.”

Come say hi to Paddy and his crew at the next market on Sat June 18th! They will be serving up authentic South American style tapas and sweet treats, so come along and have a browse, grab a woolly scarf or two and while the afternoon away with a warm beverage from Lady Mo's.
